Time to begin our journey to our first destination, Skyros island.

Skyros, an island with an intact soul 

Skyros is an island with a significant number of devoted visitors who return every year to enjoy its beauties. Located in the southern Sporades complex, Skyros is famous for its horses, small, carved furniture and painted ceramics.

What to do in Skyros

Skyros’ main town is on a hill, topped by a castle and a monastery. To visit it, you will have to walk through its narrow alleys along the traditional whitewashed house and sleepy cats… We recommend a detour in the Folk Art Museum! 

Both adults and kids won’t be able to resist a ride on Skyrian horses. If you are lucky enough you might have the chance to watch them running wild on the central plateau and gently searching for food in farms.

The story of their origin is intriguing: Skyrian horses (hor ponies) is a breed of miniature horse and one of the rarest in the world. Their specie is protected and were brought to the island of Skyros during the 5th to 8th centuries BCE by Athenian colonists.
