Regenerative tourism: “Leave a place better than you found it”

Regenerative tourism: Taking sustainable traveling to the Next Level
The New York Times had an article last month titled: “Move Over, Sustainable Travel. Regenerative Travel Has Arrived”. According to that piece’s definition, regenerative travel/tourism is “leaving a place better than you found it.”
Sustainable tourism and anything sustainable should at the very least do no harm. However, our reefs are dying and we are losing our sea life. Regeneration is the constant coming into being that is life. The endless cycling of renewal that is nature. The essence of regenerative is that it is regenerating.
Regenerative tourism will be at the forefront of the recovery effort.
Regenerative tourism offers a groundbreaking set of solutions to rethink and rebuild the tourism industry in a way that builds long-lasting capabilities and strengthens resilience for its direct and indirect stakeholders during and beyond the crisis. It also revitalizes local economies, preserves local cultures and biodiversity while offering memorable, authentic transformative experiences to the guests and allowing destinations to flourish.
How should we deliver regenerative tourism?
Imagine how nature might flourish if we nurture it and give it the space it needs to breathe. How much more resilient and varied could the places be when we see them next. And how even more beautiful they might be when our children get to visit them. How much richer all our experiences would continually become if every cycle enriched the system more.
What these last few months have shown us is how unbalanced things have become. How we had constructed a system that was too reliant on tourism. When you took tourism away, too much collapsed.
This is exactly what we are trying to achieve with UDYSSEA project**.** A sailing journey which gives you the opportunity to contribute through several environmental actions (beach cleaning, animal-protection programs, etc.) and learn more about the special needs of each destination and how you might help them.
